COURAGE PORTRAITS
"MUTPORTRAITS"

 

The Courage Portraits were created in spring 2024 as part of my continuing education programme, CAS Creationship, at the Zürcher Hochschule für Künste ZHdK. During this time, I engaged deeply with myself and my own inner world. Again and again, I found myself returning to the theme of courage. The courage to show myself and become visible, to follow my own path, to believe in myself and dare to trust what I am capable of. But also the courage to embrace my imperfections. The courage to take my passions seriously and trust my intuition. And so, I took a leap of faith and began photographing again after a long break.

 

I became aware that courage, in all its different forms, is something that moves many people. My passion for people and their stories, together with my love for photography as a medium, led me to ask people about their courage and to portray them. At the heart of the project is my wish to create a space in which the people I photograph can show themselves as they truly are. To encourage them to step forward and become visible, with everything that makes them who they are — authentic, vulnerable, and approachable.

 

The Courage Portraits ask the question: “What’s your story?” For a brief moment, I am invited as a photographer into the world of the person I am portraying, where I get to hear a part of their story. At the same time, the portraits make their stories of courage visible and invite them to allow themselves to simply "be who they are".
